Irving Braxiatel. Terribly sorry, but I am far too busy to answer the phone just now, but please do leave a message. Don't reverse the charges. Thank you.
[It still surprises him that nobody has told him that this is a ridiculous idea.]
Excellent!
I'm thinking of doing it later in the season. There always seems to be a festival in the middle of every season, and I can't imagine it wouldn't happen for winter as well.
Well, little Jamie and I and a few of his friends are rather going to put it into gear, rather there is one or not, so you may be assured of that, Doctor.
I look forward to see what you have planned. Asgard could use some holiday cheer. Which, by the way, I'm planning a little family get together later in the month. You should come!
[He fidgets a bit, looking a little unsure of himself.]
I don't normally...do this sort of thing, so I'm not sure exactly, but I was hoping you'd be able to provide a bit of a distraction so that she doesn't see me approaching and getting on one knee. I'd like for that part to be just as much of a surprise as the rest of it.
[Don't mind him, he got a little overexcited and called you before he actually had a specific plan in mind other than making you a part of it.]
[He face palms for a moment. You're lucky this is adorable, Doctor.] Doctor. First of all, this is an engagement ring. It's not something that one expects ever. She could have been there when you bought it, and she still would be surprised. Secondly, you should make a fuss! Not ambush her like it's a grenade. If there is to be an ambush, Doctor, it should be because she is far too pleased and loved to notice!
[Doesn't know how these things work? Sigh, Doctor, sigh.]
Probably!
[This is what you're contacting him for, isn't it?]
Good. Then she oughtn't suspect. Two ways we can do this. Either we can find a suitable restaurant, possibly if you two have a favourite? Or we can do it more privately, I can set up a nice table and it'll be just be the two of you... and whoever I might engage in make the experience memorable.
[It becomes a whole new, nerve-wracking thing when you're the one doing it. And since he hasn't really done this before...
Welp. He wasn't sure what he was going to say beyond asking Brax to be a part of it, so this is all very surprising, though not unpleasantly so. He didn't expect Brax to be quite so excited.]
No...no, I think we've had time on our own enough. I think I want this to be a happy time for as many of the people who care about us as possible.
You seem to have something fairly specific in mind, Brax. Plan these a lot, do you?
[Eight returns the smile.] I just never quite pictured you as the sort. Well, I mean, I didn't think you'd be disdainful or anything, or I wouldn't have bothered to ask, but I didn't know you'd be quite this excited about it. It's a nice surprise.
[He ponders the suggestion.]
I'm sure I wouldn't want to impose on Ril, or any patients she might have.
What about doing it during the festivities your friends have planned? I know we're a big group of people, but certainly not enough to disrupt a whole city's worth of people. Right?

[He's actually a little surprised. He's so used to people rolling their eyes at his melodrama that it's a wonder the Doctor hasn't picked up on it.] I'm a romantic at hearts.
I don't think she'd mind, but, of course, that is true of the patients.
Oh, indeed. And it would hardly be a disruption, would it? It would complement the mood quite nicely.
[He's been out and about for a while. They sadly haven't spent a whole hell of a lot of time together before this in a long time. And Eight's forgetful.]
Maybe it runs in the family.
Hm, you have a point. [He shakes his head, looking a little bashful about all this. Happy, but bashful.] Good grief, look at me. I never pictured myself doing this. I mean, Eleven's married, but from what he tells me, it has quite an unusual story behind it. And here I thought I'd be able to get some advice from him.
[That was a hilarious disaster. Oh, Eleven. At least he'd given good advice in suggesting Fiona come along to help with the ring buying.]
She is definitely the one in charge in that relationship. Though I'm amazed a woman with a libido like hers puts up with his flailing. Not that I really want to know how she manages. The woman would certainly give Jack Harkness a run for his money.
I hope so. I really want to make Charley happy with this. I know we'll forget all of this when we leave, but I want it to be special even so.
The rest of us will muddle through without wives. [Even if he were guaranteed reciprocation, a decent part of Brax simply doesn't want to conduct a relationship, with Romana or anyone.]
Is it really a tragedy, Doctor? Everyone I've known seemed to have wanted me dead at one point or another. Hardly seems fair to marry any of them. [Nope! No tragedy here!]

Date: 2013-12-13 04:18 pm (UTC)Brax, how would you like to be conscripted for something happy for a change?
