Irving Braxiatel. Terribly sorry, but I am far too busy to answer the phone just now, but please do leave a message. Don't reverse the charges. Thank you.
[Her voice has the slightest wobble to it, both from cold and how hard it is not to just. Fall apart.]
Braxiatel.
[She stays in the doorway for a moment, staring up at him before she just closes the space with a hug. Come for tea, demand hugs. Maybe words will come later when she's not an icicle. Ril had been so sure she'd find him.
I can't [she whispers and her voice breaks] I can't find him. He's on the lists, so he's here, somewhere. And I've looked. I've looked everywhere but I can't, I can-- [Ril's voice snags as she presses her cheek against Brax's chest as if that'll help shut her up.]
Grey. [He says as he realises: Scott McCall's solution of chaining his friend to his bed coming into mind, with Six replaced. But, of course, he wasn't home and of course there was no way to properly find him.]
He's not gone. [He says it to reassure her, to give her her strength back and maybe some of his as well.] Grey, but not gone.
I should be able to find him, then. [Her voice is a murmur, barely audible, exhaustion flooding through it.] If he's out there. I should [her fingers curls against fabric] keep looking. I should be able to bring him home. I should always be able to bring him home.
[His grip tightens ever so slightly, not enough to impede her if she chose to pull away but enough to tell of his concern.]
He was always vanishing on me. On his teachers. Sometimes for days. Perhaps he was testing to see if we'd worry [the shrug immediately follows that! serving as both a 'I don't know' and dismissing whatever worry Brax might have felt. Not the point.] but he'd always return eventually. A little more tired. But he'd come back.
And that was when he'd reason to leave. He doesn't. He'll find you.
[False cheer.] Wouldn't want to make him tut at your tiredness, now, would you?
I guess he's not ever going to outgrow his idiot phase. Making folk worry. This is worse than him being late and I--[She's tearing up and she has to stop herself. Ril lets out a shaky breath and half laughs.]
Oh. [She sniffs.]
Too late for that, Braxiatel. He's been tutting since the day I met him.
Often. But I suppose that's really my fault. [She takes a tissue, but there's nothing to really mop up, yet. Ril is going to keep herself together if it's the last thing she does, even if she's falling apart.]
I'm not the best when it comes to sitting in one spot, or not walking into the middle of [the tissue gets waved a bit] disasters. Then again, he can't stay put, either.
Not at all. He's tutted in my direction once or twice and I try to stay away from anything resembling disaster. [His luck just happens to be dismal.] I'm very well behaved.
Mmn. I suppose you are well behaved, not that that has any bearing on being tutted at when it comes to-- [Her fingers go tight as she feels something flicker as she draws a breath.] When it comes to Six. Some people, I think, just find disaster like--
[There it is again. Maybe it's not just in her head.]
[He feels the flicker when it happens and frowns thoughtfully. He definitely doesn't like it. When she asks her question, he looks at her.] Yes, I do. I don't suppose you know what it means?
On the road to Ginnungagap. I remember [She frowns up at him, pulling at her memory.] something like-- [Again. She knew a blackout when it was coming. That rushing tunnel, the creeping blackness, the way the room drops, and if she hadn't been holding onto him, the way her knees went weak would have dropped her to the floor. Something is terribly wrong.]
[He remembers that now and dips when she does, but doesn't fall over.] We ought to get somewhere... [He frowns as a wheeling sensation washes over him.] That we can lie on.
Mm. [It's a soft agreement and his voice is dim, like everything else around her, muted and hazy. There's a bed. Beds are good and they don't move, but she suddenly wants to laugh.]
Good thing the bed's not far. [That's definitely not something she thought she'd be saying to Braxiatel of all people.]
[Ril does her best to keep them steady on the way there, but curling up next to him is more of a controlled descent that leaves her half draped across his chest. This feels different than Ginnungagap, but she supposes that's because they're in Asgard proper this time. At least they're off their feet and not in danger of falling anymore.
She attempts to adjust herself, but there's too much effort involved, and she winds up letting of a half coherent murmur.]
And here I was. [There's a soft laugh in there.] Going to suggest tea.
[Irving doesn't bother. The symptoms of this, which he'd never gotten a satisfactory answer for (and he's getting sick of less than satisfactory answers), are much stronger than at Ginnungagap.
He just about hears her remark and has a ready remark on his lips when he fell unconscious.
When he wakes up, he has a Ril on his chest and is a little confused.]
[Ril's half asleep when his voice stirs her. She's draped across him and just starting to feel warmer, which suits her just fine. Her voice is a little groggy and definitely lazy. It takes her a moment, though to refocus. He seems okay, and so does she, even if she has zero motivation to move.]
Too much effort. [Ril yawns and lets out the softest of huffs as she tucks herself a little more into him.]
[He's finding this amusing now and letting her tuck into him. Perhaps finding out what all that was about can wait, he supposes and this is better than her being scared and worried.] It does seem to be.
[She's too damned tired after wandering about and moving is such a chore that staying put was the best she could really do. As long as he's not set on moving, neither is she. It's far more comfortable than it is awkward and Braxiatel is a rather decent Time Lord pillow. She's convinced it must run in the family.]
Can figure it out tomorrow. Light's good for find.[Another yawn. Her hair is everywhere in curls and waves as she settles. It's so much more longer than when she'd arrived, that she really ought to start plaiting it or something. She's trying to keep her eyes open and stay awake, but isn't finding much success.]
For finding lost fiances and. Idiot Time Lords. [She can't even say it like she's irritated, it just comes out sleepily wry. Ril's not sure she can really ever be properly upset with Six. At least not for long.]
[Her voice is filled with quiet amusement as she smiles. If there's one thing that puts Ril to sleep in a hurry, it's her hair being touched.]
As long as he comes home, I'll be all right. Not sure what I'd do if-- [Those are thoughts she needs to let lie, but in the same vein, it could happen. It could very well happen she doesn't have a contingency plan. That frightens her.]
Whatever it turns out to be, it will be in company. [He can't promise Six would come home, so he doesn't. But that at much is something he can promise. They'll figure it out.]
