Irving Braxiatel. Terribly sorry, but I am far too busy to answer the phone just now, but please do leave a message. Don't reverse the charges. Thank you.
[The Doctor looks... apprehensive is perhaps the best word to describe it. But he's doing his best to cover it up with a cheerful expression.]
Hello! I was calling because I thought... well, you've no doubt seen it already, there's some sort of village outside the city. I, along with some of my other selves and friends, are going--I'm not exactly sure who, but I thought perhaps...
[Oh this is going so well. He really needs to get to the point.]
Would you like to come? It might be interesting, and it's a chance to see something new, for a change.
[This is totally supposed to be an apology for the way he acted at the masquerade. >_>]
Oh no, not at all! [He says it a little too fast, relieved that his brother is agreeing to come so easily.] I would be very... pleased if you came, Brax. I'm quite sure everyone else will be, as well.
[He relaxes minutely, given that his acquiescence hadn't been rejected. In retrospect a paranoid reaction, but he forgives himself it, just this once.] Where and when shall we meet?
[ Their exchange from yesterday had been weighing on her mind and made it difficult for her to sleep that night. Which was why eventually convinced herself to try reaching out to him the next day. ]
Braxiatel. When you get this message, please, contact me back. I... [ She hesitates for a moment as she tries to find the right words. ] I want to talk to you about yesterday.
[The impulse to not answer crossed his mind but didn't make him hesitate (he'd never allow himself to be that childish). It also crosses his mind to sneer 'Madam President' at her, but the fact that she is president means far too much to him for that. He's too proud of her.]
My lady?
[Relatively neutral, considering, though that's a sign of not-quite-right.]
About what was said, I can't take it back. And I realize some of it was out of line. It wasn't my intention to try and bring about a form government to Asgard. The last thing anyone would want is to see that here. [ She pauses to take a small breath, as if collecting her thoughts. ] But, that is what it sounded like. I know. And I am sorry for making it sound like I was belittling both you and the Doctors. With all that has come to pass, nearly loosing our home yet again before arriving here, I only want to do what I can to look after all of us. If I am never to return home then I want to be sure that I can do all that I can to avoid anything that might happen to lose someone I hold dear.
Even though I have completely messed all of that up of course. [ The sudden bitterness in her tone was aimed at herself. Having so narrowly avoided losing Gallifrey to the Daleks and the slow recovery from the Dogma Virus has made her painfully aware of how easily it could be to lose anymore friends. ]
[He's quiet, but only so he can listen and consider.] We all want to protect each other. But equally... equally we have to understand that you, me, the Doctors and his TARDIS are extraordinarily capable individuals. Old hands at catastrophes as much as it's painful to acknowledge, because such expertise always comes at a price.
I don't like losing people either. And I don't like being torn away from Gallifrey. [The next sentence is almost wry.] Though it's starting to feel redundant at this point.
[And other pause as he struggles for words.] I'm no stranger to messing it up either.
[In honor of the Earth holiday centering on love, Freya sends out a little gift around this time.
A small box containing a piece of chocolate will appear on your pillow during the day. When consumed, the chocolate’s magic will lift your mood for a short period of time. It’s accompanied by a note.]
Where love might bring about sorrow, it also welcomes joy.
[ In honour of the god centering on love being a giant frilly prissypants, Loki sends his own little gift just a few hours after hers.
His box of chocolate will look, smell, and taste exactly like Freya's did, appearing right next to where Freya's was or is if you haven't picked it up yet. The only difference between the two is that Loki's won't lift your mood; it'll give you loud and embarrassing flatulence for the next three hours.
It's also accompanied by a note. ]
Where joy might bring about yearning, it also welcomes wonder.
[Brax actually gets a text, since he's the absolute least likely to follow Eight out of the city or try to talk him out of leaving. Besides, he needs a little understanding from his big brother right about now.]
She's gone, Brax. And yes, I did wait to make sure it wasn't simply a freak, one night disappearance like last time. She may be gone for good.
I'm leaving Asgard this morning to spend some time alone with my thoughts in Utgard. The others have been left notes, and Clementine's been told that if she needs anything, everyone in the houses will be perfectly happy to help her. Only you and Eleven have been told of where I'm going, though I'm sure the TARDIS will guess. I just need to be...away. They mean well, and I love how much they're all very invested in trying to fix what's bothering other people, but I don't want to be fixed right now. I need to put some distance between myself and everyone else, and it helps that the network doesn't work outside of the city.
[Brax's hearts sink a little at this news but takes it in stride as he doesn't doubt the Doctor expects him to do.]
Understood. Try not to get into mischief, Thete.
['Thete'. The only sign he's worried about him, the childish nickname that he only used on the Christmas presents and never out loud; the full stop signalling that he doesn't expect a reply; both belying the chiding nature of the words themselves which only grants the Doctor the luxury of ignoring sentiment.]
[He doesn't reply, as he doesn't really need to. Brax knows how grateful he is for that measure of fraternal affection shown in the use of that nickname from their childhood. It gives him enough warmth and willingness to put one foot in front of the other to last him to Utgard.]
Master Irving? I... apologise for any actions I may have taken in the last week. And the previous, when you yourself were under similar straights. Also I... saw your post about the Lady Romana. I am, of course, always available to help at the station if you need an extra set of hands there, though I fear you may need to explain quite a bit initially. However, if you wish for company - that, also, I would be honored to provide.
I hope you're all right. I suppose we were lucky it didn't happen at the same time, weren't we?
As for Romana, I'm certain I shall see her again, this is just time that will have to pass. [He's not happy, but he is practical about it.] I can handle the station running! You needn't concern yourself with that.
Fortunate indeed! If you need any aid, the offer will stand.
And I am well enough. I fear more what damage I may have done - I was very rude to the Lady Kate, and I know not what poor Alice must have thought. [ he shrugs ] Hopefully nothing too serious.
I will hope that you have not overly long until you can see her again.
[She comes for tea, late, and unannounced. No basket. Nothing but herself, no jacket, either, and it's cold out. Ril supposes she ought to be used to it, the cold, but it never seems like she gets closer to acclimating. Or maybe it's because Six is missing as she can't find him. Still.
If anyone could find him, it should have been her.
But it's late when she knocks and she can't really bring herself to care exactly how late. But it's dark outside and the clouds obscure the moon.]
[Her voice has the slightest wobble to it, both from cold and how hard it is not to just. Fall apart.]
Braxiatel.
[She stays in the doorway for a moment, staring up at him before she just closes the space with a hug. Come for tea, demand hugs. Maybe words will come later when she's not an icicle. Ril had been so sure she'd find him.

This may sound like a strange request, but how would you like to help me propose to Charley?
